Rationale of work:

Our group decided on the vodcasting assignment as we felt that there was a great space for creative freedom, given the interesting video that could potentially be interpreted into many different ways. In order to come up with the framework for the intended interpretation of the trailer, we viewed the clip together and settled on the following brief storyline: The scene is set in a posh restaurant in Paris, where a customer is about to order dinner. A well-dressed waiter with revolting manners arrives and introduces the special dishes of the day – weird concoctions with funny names. He is just about to introduce the third dish when he is taken aback by the sight of a rat (Remy) stealing a piece of cheese. Remy the rat runs through the restaurant and kitchen, successfully avoiding any attempts by the throwing of cutlery to stop him. The ensuing climax causes the video to “hang” for a moment. Backtracking in time, Remy is seen in an underground sewer explaining the reason for stealing the piece of cheese – his passion for good food. A burp startles him. His brother Emile the rat appears in the scene gorging on something he assumes is “tissue prata”. The scene cuts to the movie title “Ratatouille”, and the voices of Remy and Emile are heard reading this out. Remy then reiterates his desire to get good food. Time is then fast-forwarded again to moments later, when Remy manages to obtain the cheese amidst the wrath of the knives headed for him. The cheeky final line of the trailer “Dinner will be served… NOT” amplifies the initial idea that Remy the rat has “spoilt” the opportunity of serving dinner to a customer in the restaurant.
